How to write a bio as stellar as you

it’s not rocket science

Unless you're a narcissist, writing about yourself is hard.

I was working with a client on her about page recently.

She had written a bio prior to working with me, but it didn't feel like her.

It was dull and clunky.

How could she convey her prowess and persuade people to trust her in just a few sentences?

Here's what we did.

  1. Identify must-haves

    • Credentials

    • Years of experience

    • Background

    • Ideal customer

    • Problem

    • Solution

    2. Understand the audience

    • Find common ground

    • Share hobby or piece of personal life

    3. Establish your voice or personality

    • Use common words that sound like you

The best part?

It's really not about you.

It's about the people you serve.

Remember:

  1. Put yourself in your audience's shoes
What qualifies you to be the best person to address this problem you help with?
Ex: “As a former research scientist, I enjoy learning technical subjects."

  2. Make eye contact
    What are your commonalities?
Show your human side; that you're like them.

  3. Express your mission
Why do you do what you do?
Ex: “Our mission is to manage your cloud services so you can sleep better at night.“

  4. Make it real
    What's your coffee obsession?
    What books do you read?

Now you've got what you need.

What are ya waiting for?
